In the Poggi Ugo kiln, the earth speaks, changes, transforms.
From this continuous research came GrigioLava<\/strong><\/em>, a unique colour born from the encounter between nature<\/strong> and craftsmanship<\/strong>. Inspired by raw earth left to dry in the kiln, GrigioLava<\/strong><\/em> recaptures that dark, textured and deep grey that tells of the very origin of terracotta.
It is a colour<\/strong> that does not rest on the surface: it runs through the entire thickness<\/strong> of the pot, guaranteeing authentic durability and a beauty that evolves with time.

“Unfired” earthenware items while drying in the room called the ‘seccatoio’: a temperature-controlled environment that utilises waste heat from the firing kiln. Here the terracotta rests and dries<\/em> gradually.
It is from the colour of the clay at this particular stage that the idea of GrigioLava<\/em> was <\/strong><\/sup>born<\/sup><\/strong><\/h4><\/figcaption><\/figure>

The birth of GrigioLava<\/strong><\/h2>

To the pure Impruneta clay<\/strong> – extracted from the quarry next to the Poggi Ugo kiln – we add two natural oxides<\/strong>:<\/p>

one gives <\/strong>the colour
the other stabilises<\/strong> the colour.

The quantity is minimal compared to the clay powder, but sufficient to bring about a radical change. It is in the kiln<\/strong>, during firing, that the oxides<\/strong> react<\/strong> and give rise to the grey shade that we have christened GrigioLava<\/strong><\/em>, precisely to emphasise<\/strong> the lively, textural and changeable character<\/strong> of products made in this variant.<\/p>
