Brutus by Michelangelo

Brutus – Michelangelo. Classic marble bust sculpted by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The original work is housed in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. It was sculpted around 1538, portraying the character with taut, swaggering, impenetrable, and unflappable lines, with the head decisively turned to the right, from which emerges a restrained energy that is a mixture of anger and disdain. The unfinished aspects of the face and hair amplify the expressive sense of moral firmness and awfulness, characteristic of the finest works of the sixteenth-century artist. Finally, a fibula on the shoulder secures the cloak with its wide folds. It is naturally suited for placement on a column or pedestal, in a niche or other eye-level setting, equally suitable for indoor or outdoor environments, in prestigious and refined gardens.
