Olla

The terracotta Olla is inspired by ancient ollas used in pre-Roman and Roman times, such as the dolium and doglio, large globular containers designed to store liquids and foodstuffs, essential for winemaking. These vessels, discovered in Pergamon and various archaeological sites, have been found in historic locations like Pompeii and Ostia, where they were often placed in granaries or sunk into the ground for better preservation.

In Pompeii, dolia were commonly used in homes and taverns, while in Ostia, an important commercial port, they facilitated the storage and transport of food and wine. Similar vessels to the dolium were also used in the grand Cretan palaces of Knossos and the ancient city of Troy, demonstrating the importance of these containers in the economy and daily life.

The rounded shape of the Olla, akin to that of the dolia, aids in the preservation of goods, and its ample size makes it suitable for various applications.
